Latest Changes

X-Selection (also known as mouse selection or PRIMARY) has made its way into subversion. The regular clipboard and x-selection work concurrently, you can enable or disable any at will. The history menu will mark the item currently in x-selection in italics if it is not the same as your clipboard contents.

In addition, Parcellite now checks the history to check if a newly copied item is already in history. I will later make it so if it is already in history it will get bumped up as the newest item and its older copies be deleted.

  3. Ouch, I only see this now! \me svn up
Thanks a lot! Parcellite is one of my must-have apps.

  4. Off topic.

I reinstalled Ubuntu and lost the switch for hiding the system tray icon. I eventually found the info (after lots of online searching) via ‘man parcellite’. I think it would be useful to create a page on this site for the documentation.

    Thanks for a great program.

  5. Good idea David.

  6. Something very useful — that xclip does — is to have 2 additional command-line commands: one to copy text to the primary clipboard and another to retrieve text from it.

The problem with xclip is, it doesn’t support Unicode (and not even accentuated characters — this is my main problem with it).

Do you think you could add a feature like this?

  7. Parcellite already has that feature Andy.

  8. Really? For the primary? I don’t mean the Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V clipboard, but the “mouse selection” one (i.e., the primary).

If this is in, it’s in the 0.8 already? I don’t see this in the command-line help…

  9. You see, xclip has a total of 4 commands/operations for this — “put” and “get” for each clipboard.

  10. Ah, I’m sorry, I misread your comment. I should be able to squeeze it in there sometime soon. Maybe not for 0.9 since I have frozen it until I get translation updates for release.

  11. Ok, thank you very much Xyhthyx! :)

There’s also something that seems to be a bug — when sending to clipboard from stdin, we need to include a final “\n” (xclip, for example, doesn’t require this).

As an illustration, here’s some ruby code for parcellite and xclip:

( Pls disregard the fact that, in this code, one method (the parcellite one) is for the normal clipboard and the other method (xclip’s one) is for the primary. )

    Can you see the difference?

Well, it’s not a big problem, but it would be nice if you could fix this for ease-of-use, especially when using the pipe on the command-line.

  12. Noted Andy, added it to the TODO list. Once I get updated translations I can make subsequent bugfix releases like that one and add small features that have been recommended.

  13. Ok. Thank you very much!
