Inactivity

June 22, 2009 – 12:25 am

If you haven’t noticed, there has been a period of inactivity with development. This is mostly due to the amount of time I spend in other areas of my life such as work, girlfriend, family, etc. and also somewhat do to lack of interest. I do plan to sit down and iron out some bugs that are way past due, but I don’t plan to significantly develop Parcellite much further than its current state. There will be another project that I plan to work on soon and I hope the community will embrace it like they did Parcellite.

I appreciate the free software community’s support, especially those of you who have submitted patches and translations. Thank you again.

  2. oh, damn!

Gnome needs a good clipboard manager like parcellite.
So, I’d be very happy if you can improve parcellite to manage other than text, like images.

  3. I’m sad to hear that. Parcellite is a “must-have” tool for the Gnome Desktop. I hope somebody will continue this project after you’ll stop working at it.

Btw, I’d like an option like “Prevent empty clipboard” in Parcellite. Many times when I copy a section of text and close the “source” program, I have to click the Parcellite icon from systray and select the last entry to can do “Paste”. This is kinda annoying and that’s why I think that this would be a good improvement.

Hope you understood me, I understand perfectly english but I’m not so good speaking (or writing) it :)

  5. Thank you for such a lovely app! If you aren’t able to continue your excellent work, I hope someone else can pick it up.

  6. I just want to say a huge thanks for Parcellite! I was previously using Glipper, but that turned out to be far too unreliable. Parcellite works perfectly, and it’s so light!

The only issue I have is that Parcellite requires libraries newer than those in RHEL/CentOS 5. Please see the following:

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=513097

Would it be possible for you to take a look at this and see if it wouldn’t be too hard to support RHEL/CentOS 5?

  7. Hi I’ve been using parcellite for about 6 months and have it auto-start at bootup, Its better than Glipper and really I hope you don’t abandon it all together, Maybe just update it here and there, etc. Not very often does one come across a program this good, Its small, light and works they way it should. Excellent Work !!

  8. just a suggestion easy to implement but really usefull:

could you put a cross next to each element so that we can remove them from the list ?

    i would love that :)

  9. Hi,

Parcellite has been very useful to me. I also make it autostart at boot.

I just realized that current Parcellite on Ubuntu’s repo (0.9.1) doesn’t support image/media content.

I am delighted to see that this is (even partially) supported on development version. I hope it can be released so everybody can use this.

    Thank you!

  10. Have to agree on other comments that Parcellite is way, way better than Glipper.

    Parcellite rocks!

  11. Just wanted to thank you for this great tool!

If you ever decide to tinker with it again, it would be very nice to have:

    1) filterable history (a la ditto clipboard manager for windows)
    2) quick list selectable via number (like the last 10 in history, also a la ditto)

    thanks!

  12. When you launch a new process (from one action), don’t call “system(char*)” from a pthread as you are doing. To start a new process “fork()” the process and then `execvp’ (using a shell as first param…).
This will avoid parcellite to crash.

  13. What is “Copy and Primary synchronization” feature and why is it so important?
// excuse me for the out of place question, but I have not found appropriate site.

  14. really useful tool! I am also sad that you won’t continue to improve it (even though I can understand your reasons very well). I really miss the ability to use it for copying image files.

  15. It seems that Parcellite 0.9.1 can’t copy anything except text. With started Parcellite 0.9.1 I can’t work copy/paste images or vector objects in graphical editor, it paste last text in clipboard instead. With unloaded Parcellite all ok.
Maybe this bugreport (for Glipper) could be useful, this looks like the similar bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glipper/+bug/104432
